The Story

Welcome to Solitaire Homestead, a place shaped by the rich tapestry of Nico and Kelly's diverse cultural backgrounds. Nico's Dutch/Spanish roots and Kelly's Canadian heritage converge to create a unique and welcoming experience at Solitaire.

In 2001, Nico acquired what would become Solitaire Homestead, a canvas of 100 untouched acres. With determination and hard work, fencing was meticulously placed, dams were crafted, power was seamlessly connected, and work sheds emerged on the landscape. The gradual transformation began. Thirty thousand trees took root, livestock found their home, and a charming vacation rental homestead was erected, offering guests a serene retreat amidst nature's embrace. The farm rested, content in its newfound purpose.

Then, everything changed when Nico crossed paths with Kelly. A family blossomed, and the farm expanded. Another home was added, and a humble shed was transformed into a breathtaking wedding venue, now recognized as one of the premier wedding destinations in the south-west. The family grew, not just in members but in experiences and memories woven into the fabric of Solitaire.

As the years unfolded, more animals became part of the Solitaire story - dogs, guinea pigs, horses, doves, chickens, pheasants, and a menagerie of others. Somehow, the farm managed to accommodate each addition with grace and warmth.

In response to the growing demand for the Solitaire experience, another guest house was thoughtfully created, providing visitors with the opportunity to immerse themselves even deeper into the tranquility and charm of Solitaire Homestead.

Today, Solitaire Homestead stands as a testament to the dedication and love of Nico and Kelly. Rooted in history, shaped by family, and enriched by the surrounding beauty, Solitaire Homestead invites you to be a part of its story. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat, a magical wedding venue, or a glimpse into the vibrant farm life, we welcome you to share in the warmth and hospitality that defines Solitaire Homestead.

THE HOMESTEAD

The interior of the Homestead has been designed following Spanish architectural principles, with rendered straw bale insulation to keep the home cool in summer and warm in winter.

The Homestead was created mindfully in a way that enhances relaxation. The wooden floorboards lift the space, a deep spa bath creates the perfect place to soak, air conditioning is there for those hot nights and a log fire will keep you warm in the cooler evenings.

Cook yourself a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, before relaxing on the oversized lounge to enjoy a movie on the large screen TV.

Looking out the windows, you can take in the seclusion of the property, glimpsing birds in the trees or spotting the kangaroos nibbling grass in the paddocks.

Venturing outside, the day beds and sun chairs on the wrap-around veranda invite you to bask in the serenity of the natural surrounds. Or cook up a feast on the BBQ before dining at the enormous table perfectly suited to entertaining with your friends and family.

Private bushland around the Homestead features trails that’ll lead you to the picturesque lake, with plenty of scenic spaces to explore.

It’ll be hard to pull yourself away from the Homestead, but if you manage to do so, you’ll find world-class beaches, award-winning wineries and restaurants, fine art galleries, gourmet local food producers and boutique breweries right on your doorstep.

And after a busy day sightseeing and indulging, you can retreat once again to the sanctuary of the Homestead.
